In the past, when human activities had no significant influence on natural environment, the majority of the Masovia territory was covered
by forests. Today, there are hardly any forest areas to the south of Warsaw. They were displaced by arable land, villages and towns. The remaining natural forests are preserved in the Chojnowski Natural Landscape Park, established in 1993. Its symbol is a badger, for which the park is a good natural habitat. The range of protection covers forests and grasslands, including the valley of the Jeziorka River. The area of the park is 6,800 ha, 75% of which is covered by forests, while 15% - by grasslands. The park’s buffer zone, which is also under protection, covers another 4,700 ha. The park ranges from Konstancin-Jeziorna, Obory and Wilczynek in the east to Prażmów in the southwest. The western border of the park is routed along the Jeziorka River.
The Chojnowski Natural Landscape Park lies within the borders of five communes: Piaseczno, Konstancin-Jeziorna, Prażmów, Tarczyn and Góra Kalwaria.
